From the Amity Archives

This post looks back at some of the social impact projects carried out by Amity Forum between 2016 and 2020, when the community regularly organised initiatives focused on service, learning, and collective action across Kerala.

Supporting Students and Families in Malipuram

One of Amity Forum’s major community initiatives between 2016 and 2017 was the Malipuram Project in South Malipuram near Vypin.

The project focused on supporting students and families through practical community support. Volunteers helped set up a study hall, arranged computers for learning, and organised career guidance sessions for young people in the area.

Scholarship support and internet access were also provided to help students continue their education with better opportunities and resources.

Alongside academics, the initiative encouraged youth participation through football and outdoor activities to create positive spaces for learning, teamwork, and personal growth.

Water Conservation Through Everyday Action

Between 2016 and 2017, Amity also worked on water conservation awareness projects in Kerala by encouraging mindful water usage in mosques.

Awareness boards inspired by Islamic teachings on avoiding waste were distributed across different locations. Aerated filters were also provided to help reduce water usage during wudhu.

The initiative connected faith and environmental responsibility through small but meaningful everyday actions.

Community Health Support in Vypin

In 2017, Amity supported a kidney check-up drive in collaboration with ISM Medical Centre, Kodungallur.

A total of 118 people participated in the medical screening. Several individuals showing early symptoms of kidney-related health concerns were identified and guided toward further care and support.

The initiative reflected the importance of accessible healthcare and early awareness within local communities.

Supporting Communities Through Collective Effort

Between 2017 and 2018, Amity volunteers organised clothing and shoe collection drives for migrant worker communities and Rohingya refugee families.

Volunteers collected, packed, and distributed supplies across different areas. Book and clothing collection efforts were also carried out for tribal communities in Kerala through local partnerships and volunteer support.

These initiatives were built on a shared belief that service becomes more meaningful when people come together to contribute in small and consistent ways.

Improving Shared Public Spaces

In 2018, Amity volunteers took part in a neighbourhood cleaning drive near the Infopark back gate and Seaport Road area in Kochi.

Overgrown weeds and grass along the roadside had made pedestrian movement difficult and unsafe in certain stretches. More than 30 volunteers came together to clean and improve the area, helping make the space safer and more accessible for people who used the route every day.

The initiative showed how small local actions can create visible improvements in shared public spaces.

A Community Built on Service

Each project addressed a different need, but they were all connected by the same purpose — bringing people together to create positive impact through action.

For Amity Forum, social impact has never been about recognition. It has always been about showing up with sincerity, supporting people with dignity, and doing good together as a community.

That spirit continues to guide the work we do today.
