On 19 August 2023, fourteen of us set out early in the morning.

Members of Amity Forum and Muslim Service Society, Vazhakala, heading to a place called Peace Valley.

We did not know exactly what to expect.

By the time we left, we knew we had experienced something we would not forget.

What Is Peace Valley?

Peace Valley is a rehabilitation centre in Kothamangalam, Ernakulam.

It is run by the Human Care Foundation and sits on ten acres of quiet, green land.

It is not just one facility. It is many things at once.

Dialysis units. Physiotherapy centres. Spaces for elderly residents. Support for children with developmental challenges.

All of it run with intention and care.

What We Experienced

From the moment we arrived, we felt welcomed. A dedicated volunteer met us at the gate and stayed with us through the day. She guided us through the centre, room by room, story by story.

We met elderly residents who live there. We met other visitors. We saw how different people — different ages, different backgrounds — all found a kind of home in this place.

That feeling of community stayed with us.

We also had the privilege of meeting the chairman, Mr Abu Bakr. He spoke to us about how Peace Valley started, what it stands for, the challenges they face, and the small joys that keep them going. After a warm lunch with the team, we made a small contribution to Peace Valley — directed toward food and dialysis support, two of their most immediate needs.

What We Carried Home

We left Peace Valley quieter than we arrived. Not sad. Just more aware.

Aware of what we have. Aware of what others need. Aware of how much can be done when people simply show up.

And, this verse stayed with many of us that evening:

“And He has granted you all that you asked Him for. If you tried to count Allah’s blessings, you would never be able to number them." — Surah Ibrahim (14:34)

That is the spirit behind everything Amity Forum does. We are not here to speak about doing good. We are here to actually do it.

Visits like this remind us why we do what we do. If you believe in doing good together, come be part of Amity Forum.
